Biloxi Trip |

Went to Biloxi last week and managed a small win. Spent 3 nights there and 2 on the road. Total expenses were $265. Had some good meals and some regular ones
comp'd. Spent more for gas than lodgings and food, misc. etc.

I was at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi before they had a place for gamblers. How much recovery from Katrina has happened.? Gulf Coast hurricanes are
relatively rare but Katrina did a job

There has been lots of recovery since Hurricane Katrina. You can still see some signs of the damages and some people still rebuilding, but the area has come a
long ways.

They are building Keesler has just had a ribbon cutting ceremony for new base housing they have just completed. It has been a long time coming but things are starting to shape back up. They have the hospital running now also. Considering the base was just about completely wiped out by Katrina things are looking better all the time Of course the casinos are doing great...they had the second best Febuary ever. They are building a new BAYVIEW casino across from Boomtown. Margarittaville across from the Grand and they have plans for more in Dieberville(sp?) They do need affordable housing there...that is the biggest problem in the area now. Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather the goal is to slide in sideways, bottle of beer in one hand and screaming "That was one helluva ride!" |

We were in Biloxi in November. There has been lots of recovery there with more to come. Here's what I don't understand, right across the street from
the Beau is a new office complex and a Waffle House. These new buildings are built right at ground level, not elevated like I thought they should be. I guess
they didn't learn anything when Katrina washed the area away.

Uh, George, remember this post that you did last November on the Biloxi board? You promised us a trip report, but then you disappeared. We're still
waiting!
