Have a restful 4th of July and if you are going to be playing with fireworks, BE Careful! Don't eat to much potoato salad.

The 4th of July has never been a good holiday for me. When I was a kid I was sitting on my front porch and my kid sister was riding her bike and the boys that lived next door were tossing lit sparklers and one landed in her head. I can still remember her riding with the sparkler, sparking from her head. She had to be taken to the hospital to have it removed.

Then when I was expecting my son 27 years ago a good friend got drunk, took a quick spin on someone motorcycle that came to the 4th party and he never returned. It took days before his body was discovered in an overgrown field less than 1/2 mile from their house. So needless to say, I usually spend the evening in the basement with the dog because she freaks from the noise. This year she can't do stairs so I figure I will turn the tv up loud and close the windows to help her relax some. During the day I will be going to my son's house because they are having a big picnic.

I guess one good memory about the 4th is that is when my son proposed to his wife while they were letting off little fireworks out in the street. He got down on one knee and her response was "What the Hell are you doing?' She is say yes, too. That was a cute night.
