State wildlife officials are temporarily closing a Chino Hills Park where they have killed two coyotes and are hunting more of the critters after an animal bit and tried to carry away a 2-year-old girl on Friday.
"We're closing the park right now," Assistant Chief' Mike McBride said about12:15 p.m. "We've had three ... attacks since December. And on Sunday, we had another report of a coyote making a beeline for a small child - under a year old.
"This is over the top. When we have this kind of a problem, it's a bad idea to be a coyote. Too many problems in too small an area."
All of the incidents have occurred in a football field-sized area of Alterra Park, a community park that borders the much larger and more rugged Chino Hills State Park.
